Beading a Soldier’s Story – Grande Prairie

Beading a Soldier’s Story – Grande Prairie

About the Workshop

Beading a Soldier’s Story in Grande Prairie centres on the military history of northwestern Alberta. So far, 37 Indigenous soldiers from the region who were killed in action have been documented, and many more are still being researched. Over one full guided day at Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre, participants learn cultural protocol, investigate a soldier’s record, and bead in his honour, becoming keepers of his story. The day is an immersive cultural experience that includes source document research, beading, traditional foods and teachings, and time with Knowledge Holders and beaders.
